We are so excited to be partnering with COOK, an amazing demonstration kitchen in Rittenhouse Square.  My father, Jerry Meyers, will be a featured guest Chef on Saturday, November 19th at 2pm to teach a class entitled "All About Apples."

My Dad was born and raised in Quakertown, PA.  He graduated from Quakertown Community High School in 1962 and went on to receive his degree from the Culinary Institute of America in 1967 and a Business Management Degree from Pratt Institute in 1970.  He spent 2 years working at Macy's Department Store as their restaurant manager before coming back to join his family at Meyers Family Restaurant in Quakertown, PA.  During his time at the restaurant he was actively involved with the PA Restaurant Association Lehigh Valley Chapter, Upper Bucks Chamber of Commerce and was voted Restauranteur of the Year.  Meyers Restaurant grew into a 500 seat restaurant consisting of a 275 seat banquet facility, 225 seat restaurant and a full-service bakery offering PA Dutch Specialties.  Our bakery was known for their Apple Dumplings, Seasonal Pies, Shoo Fly and Funny Cakes.  Although the restaurant closed in 2003, we are excited to be venturing back into the baking and event business with "The Farm Bakery & Events."

My Dad, at the young age of 73 is still baking today.  He truly has a gift for baking and absolutely loves teaching others what he has learned from his years of experience.  There are only 16 spaces, so please go to the COOK website to reserve your spot.  They open ticket sales at 2pm today and they go fast.

We hope to see you there.

Sincerely, Becca

Here is what you will learn at the upcoming class at COOK.

1.  A tutorial on various kinds of apples.  Learn the best varieties to cook, bake & eat, as well as proper storing and buying.

2.  He will be making our famous Duchess Soup from Meyers Restaurant.  For those of you who have not tried it, it is a creamy cheese soup with CV Cooper Cheese and finely chopped vegetables.  It is paired perfectly with an Apple Dumpling.

3.  He will also be making our Apple Dumplings with the traditional vanilla glaze and a new caramel sauce that has become a house favorite.

4.  You will learn how to make an Apple Tart, which is a unique way to make an apple pie that offers a great presentation, sure to impress your guests at your next dinner party.

5.  Lastly, you will learn how roll out dough and make the perfect pie crust.

Weddings at "The Farm"....

Our "Barn" has undergone a complete restoration this Summer.  Each piece of old wood has been taken down piece by piece and replaced with new wood to bring "The Barn" back to its glory days of the 1820's.  Our goal with this restoration was to preserve as much of the old as we could, but also when adding the new wood, mimic the way it was originally built back in the 1800's.  We still have to stain the exterior and the interior of "The Barn", as well as re-finish the floors!  We are really excited about the progress and cannot wait to see all of the finished details.  My Mother-in-Law sent me this beautiful poem below and I could not agree more with everything written here.  This was written by guests who stayed at their bed-n-breakfast in Tennessee in a book called "Priceless Company" by Kathryn Anne Sias.  What a beautiful picture of God's strength in our lives.  As we look to be a solid ground for many lives at "The Farm" we pray and ask that God continues to guide our plans, our decisions in all that we do with this barn to truly bless each and every couple that starts their journey here together.

"The Beauty of An Old Barn"

How does my friend see the beauty in an old barn?  Its foundation unstable, even sometimes crumbling all around.  It must be the beams so large and strong, maybe it's the old wood on the outside, weathered and worn.  Could it be the size or shape that catches her eye?  I wonder as I once seen a round barn with no corners to hide.  It can't be the color, as most are faded from age, it must be that she knows just why these old barns were made, to be a covering to protect someone's belongings, cattle or food.  The beauty of an old barn, what a splendor, aged and rugged and close to my friends heart, so tender.  The structure of the Lord, surrounding our soul, His Word, His Blessings and all that take control.  As viewed on the outside, should be solid and strong.  The beauty of the Lords's touch should want one to long.  As the strength of an old barn can weather any storm, so should we as He is our strength, for anything that comes along.

"Honor and majesty are before him:  strength and beauty are his sanctuary."

Psalm 96:6

We look forward to hosting our first Wedding at "The Farm."  The barn will ready for Weddings and Special Events in the Spring of 2017.  Please email us at meyersfarmybakery@yahoo.com or call 215-272-2301 for rental information, our preferred vendor list and any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Chris & Becca Lynde

Pumpkin Buttermilk Pancakes

I feel like the dog days of summer can't end soon enough! This pancake is fluffy yet still has substance. So, you won't be hungry in an hour.

I feel like the dog days of summer can't end soon enough!  As Fall approaches, we love to change up our pancake recipe and add a nice little twist.  This pancake is fluffy yet still has substance, so you won't be hungry in an hour. This pairs great with a breakfast chicken sausage.

-Chris

Pumpkin Buttermilk Pancakes

(Makes 15-18 pancakes)

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbs. vinegar + enough milk to make 2 c.
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. pumpkin puree
  • 2 1/2 cups Spelt Flour
  • 3 tbs. unsalted, melted and slightly cooled butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 c. coconut palm sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbs baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice blend

Instructions:

  1. Heat griddle to 325 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl add the milk/vinegar mixture. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Add the pumpkin, eggs, butter, and vanilla. Wisk to combine.
  4. In a separate medium bowl sift together the dry ingredients (this makes them fluffy!)
  5. Pour the dry ingredients over the wet ingredients and wisk until combined. Don't overdo it.
  6. Let batter rest for 5 minutes.
  7. Melt 2 tbs. butter on griddle. Wipe off with a paper towel.
  8. Use a 1/3 c. measure and pour pancakes onto griddle.
  9. Flip when edges become dry and bubbles form.

Serve hot with maple syrup, chopped pecans or chocolate chips if you like!

The floors are in just in time because the barn tours have begun!

As of Friday the floors were nailed down. When the Amish builders began to remove the flooring in the middle bay, they uncovered a second floor!

As of Friday the floors were nailed down. When the Amish builders began to remove the flooring in the middle bay, they uncovered a second floor! I love when things like this are discovered. It was a perfect floor that was close to 200 years old- AMAZING!! They were able to use the majority of these planks to re-lay the floor. They built up underneath so now all the floors are the same height. The next and final step for the floors will be a good cleaning, sanding, and clear coat finish. This will certainly preserve the floor for 200 more years. Today we had our fourth barn tour and it's been a pleasure to meet with so many great people.  All we ask is come with an open mind because we're still in the throws of construction. Fortunately the building phase will be completed this week and then we get into the electrical, lighting, and landscaping stages.

There is still a lot to be completed, but these final steps and finishing details are certainly the most exciting.  Call or email us today if you would like to host your Wedding or Special Event at "The Farm!"  We would love to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Chris & Becca Lynde
