Vanessa & Hector

We don’t play favorites (really, we don’t), but every once in a while we have a couple at the Farm that just absolutely blows us away.

Vanessa & Hector are one of them - but not for all the reasons you might think.

Logistically, it looked like we had struck out in almost every possible way.

Except, it was Vanessa & Hector.

Rustic Summer Wedding at the Farm Bakery and Events Wedding Venue in Quakertown, Pennsylvania photographed by Dearly Beloved Weddings.

We don’t play favorites (really, we don’t), but every once in a while we have a couple at the Farm that just absolutely blows us away.

Vanessa & Hector are one of them - but not for all the reasons you might think.

The heavens opened in the middle of their outdoor ceremony, it was raining sideways, we weren’t allowed to close the doors to the Barn per our regulations, and there were so many outdoor portions of their wedding day that were seemingly a wash out (pun quite intended).

And that is not even to mention the global pandemic.

Logistically, it looked like we had struck out in almost every possible way.

Except, it was Vanessa & Hector.

And they had faced enough challenges together already, and had cultivated such a strong faith together, to know that their wedding day was about infinitely more than the weather, or tractor rides and fire pits, or even the other more bonkers circumstances in the world that could have put a damper on their day.

By the time dinner was over, the storm had moved along its path and the skies cleared for the most beautiful sunset. We fired up the tractor, lit the fire pit, served desserts from the Flour Cart, and had the most beautiful evening dancing and celebrating Vanessa & Hector’s marriage all around the Farm property.

Now, that alone would be a wonderful story - but there is so much more to Vanessa & Hector that made their day so special.

Vanessa & Hector came to find the Farm by chance - which is what we like to call a God Thing.

While in a long-distance relationship, with Vanessa in South Jersey and Hector in Honduras, Vanessa and her family began venue shopping. On a whim, after deciding not to pursue the venue they were on their way to visit, Vanessa’s family searched “wedding venues near me” while they were on their way home - and lo and behold, the Farm Bakery and Events came up.

They pulled into the parking lot (during a ceremony, no less!) and sent us an inquiry right away - the following Saturday, they came to officially visit us and we immediately knew we were going to be a perfect fit!

Vanessa’s words say it best to encompass all that came to follow:

“At some point during the meeting I believe we ended up sharing testimonies and we even prayed to close out our time together... that doesn't happen anywhere, you know. As believers, Christ is our entire lives and it was so encouraging knowing that we were of the same mind as you and The Farm. We don't ‘take off’ our Christianity during a wedding venue meeting like we would a hat on our heads. Rather we rejoice in knowing that we have encountered other people who proclaim Jesus as Lord and live to glorify Him. After our tour and meeting, we were quite sure we didn't need to look anywhere else. I remember we went to the Burger King right there near The Farm and I Facetimed Hector and we were all in agreement that The Farm was the place for us!!”

“Then came COVID and started to shake things up a bit. We were unsure for a while how things were going to pan out. But you communicated with us the whole way through how things were looking over there and were always looking for ways to make it work in accordance with the ever-changing state regulations and ordinances. I remember talking to someone who was also planning a wedding and she was telling me that she was trying and trying to get information from her venue but they would not even answer her. It made me even more grateful for The Farm.”

“The Farm will forever hold a special place in our hearts and we can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for its future. The Farm feels like a home away from home. And it's because of so much more than the beautiful barns and grounds... it's because of the people who tend to it and contribute to making a wedding so special. It's our sincerest desire that The Farm will continue its legacy as a place where God is glorified, His word is revered, and marriage is honored. Thank you again Becca and The Farm team, from the bottom of our hearts.”

When I say we all teared up after reading Vanessa’s words, I mean it (and that wasn’t even the first time these two made us cry - their ceremony, rain and all, had us bawling).

There is not much we can say to better sum up the special place in our hearts that Vanessa & Hector hold. From the first time they came to the Farm, we knew they were something special - and we are so absolutely honored to have the opportunity to serve this incredible couple and celebrate their marriage on their wedding day.

Vanessa & Hector, we wish you the very best as you embark on this new journey together - we can’t wait to see you again soon!

Happenings on The Farm

2020 has definitely been a whirlwind of year for so many people on so many levels. My heart truly goes out to small business owners, especially to vendors in the event industry, as well as restaurants. As we all try to navigate through these times one thing I am thankful for is the opportunity to get creative and collaborate. It has been so exciting to see how small business owners are able to re-invent themselves, pivot and adjust their business plans to keep their businesses afloat during this time. I can assure you this is no small task for a business owner.

Our New Harvest Barn - housing a commercial kitchen for our bakery, a new smaller event space, a beautiful bridal suite and on-site bathrooms! All pictures of our New Harvest Barn were provided by Hazel Lining Photography! She does amazing work.

Guidelines change what sometimes feels like daily and all of our processes have changed multiple times over the last few months. So while it is easy to focus on the chaos, God has continually reminded me to keep trusting Him and to keep looking up. He has taught me a new level on dependence on Him for wisdom, grace and patience to get through this all.

So here at The Farm we have had to change, adjust our processes and even add a few new things! We have been blessed to be able to continue to host outdoor Weddings here at The Farm! Our Barn received approval from the Bucks County Health Department to operate as an outdoor venue. Their guidance and support truly saved our little business. We have several safety measures in place, including adjusted floor plans to allow for social distancing, more team members to wipe down high traffic areas throughout each event, commercial grade cleaning products and the list goes on, but we are surviving and are so happy to be able to serve our Wedding Couples, their friends and families. Our Team at The Farm has been amazing through it all, we could not do what we are doing without each one of them.

This year, we were super excited to announce that we have built a new Harvest Barn that is fully temperature controlled which allows us to host events year-round. This new space can accommodate 50-60 people, and is beautifully decorated with a little more of a modern farmhouse feel than our main Seed Barn. We had hopes to host several Christmas Parties and even smaller Weddings in our new space, but with the Pandemic still here, we have decided to pivot and continue to expand our retail bakery hours and open a Holiday Market! Check out the pictures here of our new Harvest Barn below. So while indoor gatherings may be paused, this year we are super excited to have expanded bakery hours, a new Holiday Market with bakery specials, beautiful bakery gift baskets, holiday cookie boxes, homemade gingerbread house kits and more. Be on the look out for our Holiday Market hours, grand opening date and our menu of offerings for both Thanksgiving Pies & Christmas. We will be posting more information within the next 2 weeks.

A special “Thank You” to Hazel Lining Photography for these beautiful photos.

We have had several people ask about how they can get our Baked Goods. Currently we only have Retail Hours on Saturday’s at our Flour Cart which is open from 9am-1pm. Our Flour Cart is an adorable little vintage trailer that serves up weekly bakery specials as well as hot and iced coffee from Speakeasy Coffee Company. You can Pre-Order for pick-up or you can just come and see what we have. We have weekly seasonal bakery specials and are adding soups, chili and “Meyers” famous chicken pie to the menu in the coming weeks. We have a beautiful outdoor seating area, with a cozy fire to enjoy breakfast at The Farm while taking in the views of the farm lands and changing of the leaves. Be sure to check back regularly as our specials each weekend are updated regularly. We will continue our Flour Cart on Saturdays through November and will transition indoors when the weather gets a little cooler. Here is a link to our menu of items and specials available on the Flour Cart: http://www.meyersfarmbakery.com/flour-cart-farm-stand-and-hours. This weekend Saturday, October 17th, we are bringing back a Meyers Restaurant Favorite - Duchess Soup! You definitely do not want to miss this one! ;-)

You can pre-order our bakery items beyond our Flour Cart hours. Pick-ups can be scheduled Wednesdays through Saturdays. The Farm will make specialty cakes for all occasions, as well as several of our staple menus items available weekly. Check our our menu here: http://www.meyersfarmbakery.com/signature-bakery-menu. If you do not see something you are looking for just let us know, we are happy to accommodate special requests if it’s possible. We typically only need a 24-48 hour notice and you can place your order by emailing bakery@thefarmbakeryandevents.com.

Collaboration is key! Some of our venue friends have utilized us for their weddings and events. We deliver our dessert tables to off-site venues and set-up styled dessert tables for Weddings and Special Events. This season we’ve delivered to some amazing venues. Glasbern Inn, Historic Stonebrook Farm, Barn Swallow Farm & Durham Hill just to name a few. Thank you so much. We truly appreciate the referrals. Our Team at The Farm specializes in all things mini, check out our menu of offerings here and definitely reach out to us for your next Special Event, we would love to be part of your celebrations. http://www.meyersfarmbakery.com/wedding-special-event-menu.

We have also collaborated with 2 amazing small businesses in the area! We deliver Apple Dumplings weekly to The Spinnerstown Hotel. You can get Apple Dumplings there at the restaurant or on their to-go menu. We also deliver baked goods to Speakeasy Coffee Company. Speakeasy Coffee Company just opened a tasting room on Saturdays from 9am-2pm.

Our Flour Cart!

Open Saturdays: 9am-1pm

While 2020 has been a crazy year, I’m grateful for the opportunity to change it up a little bit here at The Farm. We hope that you will come visit us at The Flour Cart and think of us when planning your next Special Event. We truly would love to serve you! Remember to support your local businesses! They have all been through a lot this year and those with their doors still open are waiting and ready to serve you! We are praying for our country, for those that have been deeply affected by the pandemic and for all of the local businesses in our community. We look forward to coming out on the other side, stronger and more resilient than ever before.

Be well and God Bless! Becca

“Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Special Thank You to these amazing photographers: Hazel Lining Photography, Stacy Salvatori, Jessica Manns, Kupres Twins Photography, Anna Claire Photography, Dearly Beloved Photography, Skuzma Photography, & Nate Heckenberger Photography for providing some of these photos in this gallery!

What You Need to Know to Plan Your Food Truck Wedding

It’s no secret that food truck weddings are all the rage. They are a staple on all of our Pinterest boards and are able to create a casual, backyard feel to your wedding day, providing so much flexibility to mold the rest of your day around the style you’re going for! That being said, they can sometimes require more planning than hiring a traditional catering company generally does.

Whether you find yourself on our blog as a couple getting married at the Farm, or a couple not getting married at the Farm, or someone who just loves weddings (hello, same), we want to help make the process of planning a food truck wedding just a little bit easier for you. We absolutely love food truck weddings here at the Farm, and after hosting more than a few we have come up with a comprehensive list of things to consider as you plan your food truck wedding to make sure your day goes off without a (proverbial) hitch!

Where to start?

Are food trucks a budget-saver?

Right off the bat, the easy answer is yesbut.

On paper, food trucks usually cost significantly less per guest than full service caterers. There is, however, a lot that isn’t usually included through food trucks that most full-service caterers do include, such as linens, dishware and silverware, serving staff, and sometimes alcohol, bar supplies, and bartenders. Those are additional items that you would have to coordinate (and pay for) separately. While that can still be done for less than a full-service caterer, the total cost to couples of having a food truck wedding still usually ends up being more than the food truck’s price per head.

Our advice: run the numbers yourself! Check out all your options and see how the price pans out in relation to your budget - and how much time you want to put into coordinating the additional details.

How to find the right food truck?

Luckily, the Farm has an amazing Preferred Vendor List that includes food trucks for many different styles of weddings! We recommend starting with that list to see if they work with what you have in mind for your wedding day.

If you still want to keep looking after checking out our Preferred Vendor List, an amazing resource is Roaming Hunger, an online database for food trucks organized by style, location, and service. They are able to help match you to the perfect food truck for your wedding day!

Some first steps when planning for your food truck wedding are to make sure that your venue can accommodate a food truck, and that they allow outside caterers. At the Farm, those answers are Yes and Yes! We do allow outside catering, including food trucks who are not on our Preferred Vendor List. That being said, we do have some amazing food trucks listed on our preferred vendors list. We know that these trucks are experienced at catering weddings and have seen them in action at our venue - so trust us, they’re worth looking into!

Another factor to consider with your venue is whether they can physically accommodate the size of a food truck, once they are parked and set up. Food trucks take up quite a bit of space, especially once they are set up, and they are not known for their super-tight turning radius. Check in with both your venue and your food truck that they will be able to safely and comfortably operate in the space they’re given! At the Farm, we have plenty of space and options for food trucks to park comfortably - and for your guests to have easy access to them!

Finally, another good question to ask your venue is if they can help you with hiring service staff, or handling linens, utensils, flatware, or bar set up. At the Farm, we are able to customize service packages to help cover any additional needs you may have - and if nothing else, we can absolutely point you in the right direction of someone who can help. Not all venues are able to assist with this, but it is important to ask - many times, they are happy to help and already have experience with coordinating these things!

What service styles can you have with food trucks?

The beauty of food trucks is that you can be so creative in how you set them up! Your options are completely dependent on your vision for the style of food service. The Farm has the capacity to help you build out a combined Food Service Style, meaning that your guests wouldn’t have to go up to the food truck for everything (unless you want them to)! Salads or first courses can be served to the table, with each table being called individually to go up to the food truck in order to minimize lines. Some trucks have a buffet set up outside their Food Truck with select items for pick-up at the window. Your options are truly limitless.

And for the million dollar question… what happens if it rains?

Having a back-up rain plan is incredibly important whether you are having a food truck wedding or not, but what we typically do at the Farm is transition the food truck to buffet style service and move the buffet indoors. While this might not be “Plan A”, we promise your food truck dream will still be beautiful - from the aesthetic to the whimsical food!

Creative Ways to Up Your Food Truck Game:

Still want a food truck at your wedding, but not sold on the idea of using them as the only catering service? Never fear - one of the great things about food trucks is that you can get so creative with how you use them for your wedding day! Here are some fun options and creative ideas to still incorporate the food truck vibe into your wedding day, even if they aren’t the sole caterer:

the Flour Cart

the Flour Cart

The Flour Cart:

Our newest addition to the Farm is our own mobile Flour Cart! While we use this as our Farm Stand on Saturday mornings, it is also available for rental (both at the Farm and at other locations!) to fulfill all of your food truck aesthetic needs. The Flour Cart can be used to set up your dessert bar, or even for bar service! It can also house a coffee or espresso bar, set up for cocktail hour as either a bar or a buffet table for your hors d'oeuvres, or anything else you have in mind. The Flour Cart is versatile enough to cater to your most creative whims!

Mobile Bars:

We have seen couples bring some incredible mobile bars to the Farm for their beverage service! Some of our favorites that we have seen include:

The Yard Bar

The Roving Bar

Get Cozy Vintage Mobile Bars

Late Night Snacks:

Depending on your venue and your rental time, using a food truck for “late night snacks” is a super fun idea to offer some savory options during your reception in addition to the sweet desserts! And, of course, the aesthetics.

Grazing Table:

Some weddings set up a Grazing Table during their reception for guests to snack from while they wait to get in line for the food truck. These are awesome if you have a lot of guests, or if you anticipate dinner to take a longer time - or if you just like the idea of having a table set up that your guests can have access to during your reception! No matter what, grazing tables are a great and fun option for your guests to be able to get something to eat without having to wait for their table to be served.

We’ve put together some Pinterest boards for your viewing pleasure:

the Most Important Part of Your Wedding Day

So, what is the most important part of your wedding day?

There are so many different components that go into an objectively Successful Wedding Day - from the venue, to the catering, to the florals and the photography and the design and fashion, just to name a few.

While it is easy to view weddings from the perspective of the success of the vendors your hire, or the enjoyment of your guests, or maybe even your parents’ satisfaction with your Big Day, there is one element (the most important one of all!) that it is all too easy to lose sight of amidst all of the planning, partying, and pomp and circumstance.

Can you guess what it is?

So, what is the most important part of your wedding day?

There are so many different components that go into an objectively Successful Wedding Day - from the venue, to the catering, to the florals and the photography and the design and fashion, just to name a few.

While it is easy to view weddings from the perspective of the success of the vendors you hire, or the enjoyment of your guests, or maybe even your parents’ satisfaction with your Big Day, there is one element (the most important one of all!) that it is all too easy to lose sight of amidst all of the planning, partying, and pomp and circumstance.

Can you guess what it is?

You get to marry your best friend, and the love of your life.

After all, that’s what the day is truly about, right? The powerful commitment you and your spouse have made to each other, and the new life you are choosing to build together.

It’s about You. It’s about your Love. And it’s about your Story - and your commitment to a future together.

We, along with every couple planning on getting married in 2020 and every wedding vendor, have felt the effects of this pandemic on our plans. We can only imagine the heartache it has caused and the weight of having to make adjustments to your Big Day. With regulations changing so often, we are all flying by the seat of our pants trying to keep up with how best to serve our couples, while keeping everyone safe. That being said, there is one constant that not even the pandemic can dampen.

You get to marry your best friend.

If there is one positive thing we can honestly say has come out of this pandemic, it has been seeing people get creative with their wedding days. It is all too easy to view weddings in a more traditional light and get caught in the timeline, or “the way they should be” - but we are seeing couples hosting trivia night, or having yard games and dance floors outside, and sending desserts as their favors to avoid a buffet-style dessert table. There are so many options we have absolutely adored seeing!

In fact, our first wedding of the entire year was for 25 guests. Not only did Anna & Jerred have to make significant adjustments to their original plan, but a huge thunderstorm also blew in right in the middle of their outdoor ceremony - and not only did they still have a beautiful day, but their celebration was so unique and so perfectly authentic that they actually ended up laughing as they ran toward cover to read their vows and became husband and wife underneath our Cocktail Hour Patio.

(In case you don’t believe me that it was gorgeous, we have a video to prove it!)

We also got the sweetest email last week from one of our early August couples, Kristi & Andrew, telling us about their conviction to change many aspects of their wedding day in order to keep their guests and their vendors safe, because they fully understood that the valuable part of a wedding day has nothing to do with the pomp and circumstance. They went beyond regulations, digging deep into humility, to understand that the day is about celebrating their love and commitment to each other - while also fully acknowledging that no one specific timeline, floor plan, or way of doing things could possibly change the significance of their wedding day.

Kristi and Andrew are planning on hosting a cocktail style reception with dinner served as hors d’eurves throughout the night, as well as dessert. They are taking full advantage of the ample space offered at the Farm to spread out across the property for a beautiful standing reception for their guests to mingle, with yard games and their cake cutting set up outside.

This was not their original plan at all!

However, Kristi & Andrew, like all of us, were forced to evaluate their priorities. We can’t wait to share another post featuring their Big Day later on in August!

Here are some other great and creative ideas our couples have done in the past to spice up their wedding day - which are even more relevant now than ever! From dancing outside under the stars, to having an intimate sparkler send-off with your family and bridal party, to cake cutting outdoors and spending precious and private quality time with your Spouse.

The uniting factor of those choosing to still get married in 2020 is simple: they just want to get married! There are so many materialistic aspects to weddings that can so easily become the focus, or the priority, when trying to plan a wedding day - and of course that becomes a major factor as couples are trying to determine their best course of action in the age of a pandemic.

Of course it wasn’t your dream to have your guests or your vendors wear masks throughout your wedding day.

Of course it wasn’t your dream to be getting married in the middle of a pandemic. These things are hard - there is absolutely no denying that.

But those things certainly will not define the significance of the union of marriage you are entering into with your spouse.

Your wedding is about more than aesthetics. It’s about more than the pictures you get back, it’s about more than having a big party, and it’s about more than any other earthly thing that could possibly be a part of your wedding day.

It’s about you getting married.

Our industry is here to support you and help you pull off the most incredible day you can imagine, and we also want to encourage you to find what matters most about your wedding day.

And we hope you find that it’s your best friend.

Our team at The Farm will do everything we can to serve you and your families on your Wedding Day. Despite all of the changes and new ways to celebrate, I can assure you that the couples who have gotten married so far in 2020, have loved every minute of their special day.

If we can leave you with one word of advice, it’s this:

“This is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life - whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

“And why worry about your clothing? look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Matthew 6: 25 - 34

So you don’t want a traditional wedding?

We will be the first to tell you, that is absolutely fine!

One of our favorite aspects of serving our couples is seeing them bring their dreams to life and creating a completely unique and personalized experience that is perfectly suited to celebrate their love.

So, if you and your significant other know a larger traditional wedding isn’t your jam, but an elopement might not be your cup of tea either, you are not alone - and the growing trend of microweddings might be just what you’re looking for.

Before we get much farther, we at the Farm are super excited to be debuting microwedding and elopement collections suited for any couple’s needs! Click on over to our Intimate Weddings Page and inquire with us for some more information on how to host your perfect wedding day with us!

So, first things first: what is a microwedding?

image by Stacy Salvatori Photography, florals by Bloom

image by Stacy Salvatori Photography, florals by Bloom

The Knot considers a microwedding to be a full-on wedding celebration with a limited number of guests. There is still a ceremony and a reception, but the guest count is generally between 5 and 50 guests and usually consists strictly of family and / or superclose friends.

While some couples go the route of microweddings as a budget saver, many couples still utilize their full budget by creating an incredible experience for a smaller number of people. The Knot described this as a “microwedding, but macro experience”, meaning that while the average guest count is definitely lower, the price per head can sometimes be higher than that of a traditional wedding.

While microweddings have the potential to be a budget saver, there are other perks of a more intimate celebration too! Smaller gatherings allow you to get creative with personalizing so many aspects of your wedding day, without having to account for 100+ guests to coordinate as well. It also allows for significantly more time to spend with each of your guests!

Some common misconceptions about elopements and microweddings alike is that couples are skipping out on celebrating their marriage - which certainly isn’t true! Your union deserves to be celebrated, and we highly encourage that - but we also want you to celebrate it in a way that is perfect for you and your new spouse!

Skip the things that don’t matter to you.

In our opinion, every aspect of your wedding day should be meaningful. So if there’s anything on your timeline that you are not immensely excited about, skip it! Personalize every aspect of your day to be things that you are so excited about!

Personalize your guests’ experience.

Whether by simply spending more quality time with each guest throughout your wedding day, by hand-writing each guest a special note, or having personalized seating arrangements, there is so much more opportunity to add personal touches to your guests’ experience at your wedding!

Have fun with design!

Hosting a microwedding means you have much more space at the average wedding venue to incorporate so many fun design ideas! Think about renting furniture to accent the space, or maybe even hiring a photobooth for your intimate gathering.

Splurge on some things!

Leaning toward having a more intimate wedding for the budget perks is a great way to make sure you have room to splurge on some things that really matter to you! Whether that is live music, an incredible photographer or videographer, an upgraded dinner, or that dress you really, really wanted, microweddings are an awesome way to enhance the details that really matter to you and your new spouse.

So now what?

If you’re engaged and know that a traditional wedding or an elopement might both be a bit too much for you and your fiance - maybe a more intimate affair that doesn’t hold back on any of the celebrating is the perfect middle ground to make your wedding day exactly what you always dreamed it would be.

No matter how you choose to celebrate your wedding day, it is our mission to support you in making the day entirely your own in every special way. We say every single wedding weekend, “Isn’t it amazing how unique every wedding is?” It’s one of the reasons we love the industry, and one of the many reasons we are so blessed to serve the couples that choose to get married at the Farm.

If, after reading this, a more intimate wedding sound like it just might be your cup of tea, let us know! We would love to walk you through all your options for celebrating your marriage at the Farm!

It is a true blessing to have the opportunity to serve our community and our couples through it all. As always, we are immensely grateful for your continued support - and we can’t wait to celebrate with you again soon.
